Senior Specialist, Application Development

Role Overview

The Senior Specialist, Application Development consults with internal business groups to deliver application software development services and technical support aligned with business objectives. This role is responsible for analyzing, defining, and documenting requirements across data, workflow, logical processes, system interfaces, controls, and outputs, while adhering to BNY's development standards and methodologies.

The successful candidate will partner closely with stakeholders to evaluate implementation opportunities, address technical challenges, and recommend effective solutions to business issues. This individual will also contribute to project planning, feasibility analysis, cost and time estimates, and the advancement of development best practices, tools, and methodologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Consult with internal business groups to provide application development services and technical support
• Analyze, define, and document business and system requirements, including data, workflow, logical processes, interfaces, controls, and outputs
• Partner with stakeholders to understand business needs and identify implementation opportunities and technical solutions
• Analyze information and provide recommendations to resolve business and technology issues for supported business groups
• Contribute to project planning activities, including timelines, feasibility assessments, cost estimates, and compatibility analysis
• Lead or contribute to the establishment, implementation, and monitoring of development best practices, methodologies, and tools
• Propose innovative and practical technology solutions that improve application performance, scalability, and supportability
• Support the achievement of team and business objectives through high-quality delivery and collaboration

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of application development experience
• Application development experience using enterprise technologies and modern software development practices
• Strong SQL and database development skills (Oracle, Snowflake, SQL Server, or equivalent)
• Knowledge of API integration, data modeling, ETL, and workflow automation
• Experience with Python or similar development platforms
• Hands-on experience with:

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Experience integrating data from multiple source systems and APIs
• Experience supporting production environments and resolving application issues
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and DevOps practices
• Experience working with AI-enabled analytics, automation, or intelligent reporting platforms
• Experience in the securities or financial services industry
