Full Charge Bookkeeper Law Firm

Position Type: Full-Time
Department: Finance & Administration
Reports To: Managing Partner / Office Administrator

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Full Charge Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial operations of an established law firm. The ideal candidate will have prior law firm or legal-industry bookkeeping experience, strong attention to detail, and hands-on experience with Sage accounting software.

This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank and trust accounts, processing payroll, and preparing financial reports. The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently, handling confidential financial information, and understanding the unique accounting requirements of a law practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the firm's full-cycle bookkeeping and day-to-day accounting functions.
  • Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and financial records using Sage.
  • Reconcile operating, trust/IOLTA, credit card, and other firm accounts.
  • Handle accounts payable, including vendor invoices, payments, and expense tracking.
  • Manage accounts receivable, client billing, collections, and payment applications.
  • Process attorney and client-related financial transactions accurately and timely.
  • Maintain and reconcile client trust/IOLTA accounts in accordance with applicable rules and firm procedures.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Process payroll and related payroll tax filings, as applicable.
  • Prepare and maintain records for accountants, auditors, and tax professionals.
  • Monitor cash flow and assist management with budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Maintain organized documentation and ensure financial records are complete and audit-ready.
  • Identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and make necessary corrections.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client, firm, and financial information.
  • Provide financial information and reports to firm leadership as requested.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, preferably within a law firm or professional-services environment.
  • Prior experience with law firm accounting and trust/IOLTA accounting is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with Sage accounting software required.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, AP, AR, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with legal billing and client-account transactions preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
