Responsibilities

• Design of nuclear fuel handling equipment, and fuel handling components from requirements development through final design, manufacturing and commissioning.
• Provide a wide range of support for the design of fuel handling equipment.
• Complete designs of equipment, processes and components by applying engineering and scientific principles.
• Complete design through calculations, developing drawings, using and writing software and commercially available engineering tools.
• Follow engineering procedures to conduct and document design work.
• Write technical reports detailing the design work.
• Coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts as needed.
• Present results of design reviews and oversee technical areas within projects.
• Identify and ensure the effective application of correct design codes such as ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA.
• Provide technical direction and guidance to engineers regarding nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
• Analyze and allocate regulatory criteria and standards to complex mechanical and process system designs.
• Create and manage drawing packages including P&IDs, 3D models, interface, assembly and system interface drawings.
• Collaborate with design disciplines to develop plant design information and specify system performance criteria.
• Provide technical direction and oversight of supplier projects, including review of deliverables.
• Establish and maintain system requirements and specifications such as Engineering Design Specifications.
• Propose and initiate testing programs for plant system qualification and support test execution and reporting.
• Generate design packages for systems, sub-systems, and equipment, including calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
• Develop and review technical design documents such as Design Basis Documents and Interface Control Documents.
• Support licensing activities related to Safety Analysis Reports.
• Participate in design reviews for plant system and subsystem designs.

Requirements

• B.S. in Mechanical or related discipline from an accredited university, or equivalent experience
• 6-15 years of direct experience with proven mechanical equipment design skills
• Experience in complex mechanical structures and equipment design, with nuclear fuel handling equipment a plus
• Experience with high-temperature systems and multi-discipline integration highly desired
• Experience with ASME BPVC, Section III, Division 1 and/or Section VIII
• Experience with remote tooling design and/or hot cell operations
• Previous experience with nuclear reactors, fuel handling process systems, or similar high-performance equipment
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
• Attention to detail and a commitment to technical excellence
• Ability to coordinate and lead design teams with minimal direction
• Ability to manage projects with multiple objectives and resolve conflicting requirements
• Experience working to quality standards such as ASME NQA-1
