Responsibilities

Instruction & Rehearsals

  • Successfully plan for and lead weekly marching band rehearsals, including both music and drill instruction.
  • Teach and reinforce drill charts and field formations in a structured, engaging manner.
  • Supervise all after-school marching-related activities involving band students, such as rehearsals, parades, football games, competitions/showcases, sectionals, etc.
  • Provide individualized and group instruction that aligns with Florida state standards for music education.

Program Development & Performance

  • Field a marching band along with auxiliary units and/or pep band during the Fall athletic season.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the show, including music selection, drill design, choreography, visual components, and required summer band camp activities.
  • Organize, schedule, and manage student participation in Marching Band MPA and other local, regional, or state events.

Budget, Logistics & Safety

  • Develop and manage the marching band budget in collaboration with director while following district and state best practices.
  • Ensure proper care, inventory, and procurement of instruments, uniforms, and other equipment.
  • Secure and supervise transportation of students to scheduled marching and marching-related events in compliance with district policies.
  • Maintain safety and supervision protocols during all travel and off-campus events.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Maintain open and professional communication with staff, parents, administration, and students.
  • Collaborate with director, band staff, and parent volunteer organizations.
  • Oversee, moderate, and assist any band parent support groups that aid in the success of students.
  • Provide timely updates, schedules, and performance information to all stakeholders

Standards & Professionalism

  • Adhere to Floridas Code of Ethics for the Education Profession and all relevant state and district policies.
  • Create and promote a positive and disciplined environment that supports student growth and excellence.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to students, fostering leadership and personal responsibility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrable experience directing a marching band, including drill design and show production
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Music Education
  • Valid Florida Educator Certificate in Music (K-12)
  • Knowledge of Floridas educational standards and Music Performance Assessment criteria
  • Experience working with students and managing heterogeneous student ensembles
