FSQA Supplier SpecialistPURPOSE OF ROLEThe FSQA Supplier Specialist performs numerous essential functions to ensure the safety and quality of all raw materials that are being received at our facilities. This position will be located in our off-sight Cold Storage Facility where they will also assist in ensuring conformance to BRC Distribution guidelines. This position will report to the FSQA Technical Services Manager. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES- Lead the food safety/quality culture with our suppliers, by providing Surlean expectations.
- Perform Supplier Approvals via documentation request and reviews and random plant visits.
- Track and trend supplier performance.
- Initiate claims against suppliers.
- Perform weekly poultry summary.
- Provide weekly purge and bone claims.
- Monitor fat results and manage fat claims.
- Perform Risk Assessments for all suppliers.
- Maintain the Approved Supplier List (packaging, ingredients, beef, poultry, service/chemical providers).
- Maintain the Ingredient Allergen List.
- Manage all supplier documents in QA Network Drive.
- Review COAs and perform releases for incoming goods in the inventory system.
- Maintain and review current raw material specifications (packaging, ingredients, beef, poultry).
- Perform random product inspections of incoming ingredients for vendor validation.
- Perform ingredient audits and packaging reviews.
- Communicate via phone and email with our manufacturing facilities on non-conformance of incoming raw materials to ensure understanding of concerns and accuracy for claim and communication process.
- Communicate via phone and email with suppliers on non-conformances.
- Verification of off-sight cold storage performance checks: temperature monitoring, facility walk-throughs, trailer inspections, pest control
- Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS/ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Degree preferred but not required
- 5 years’ experience in QA
- HACCP/FSMA Knowledge
- GFSI Knowledge
- Frequently stands, lifts 50 lbs., walks, reaches, stoops, bends, handles product, smells, listens, speaks and sees
- Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to learn and utilize company ERP system
- Must be able to work in extreme temperature
- Must be a team player and be able to work cross-functionally
- Must be able to work unsupervised
- Must be able to travel within the contiguous United States and Canada
- Good communication skills: written and oral
WORKING CONDITIONS: The temperature ranges from 0 degrees in freezers to 110 degrees in the cook rooms. There is exposure to equipment and machinery that are considered to be hazardous. Potential electrical, chemical, and heat hazards are also present. The level of noise is high and constant. Floors are damp and slick. There is forklift traffic present. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Hard hats, ear plugs or muffs, frocks, non-porous steel toe boots, hair nets, and beard nets must be worn at all times within the plant. Cotton and Latex gloves must be worn when handling product or contacting sanitary surfaces at all times for personal safety and product quality. EMERGENCY TASK AND JOB ASSIGNMENT: In the event that the FSQA Supplier Specialist is not available the Supplier Quality Manager will be responsible for assigned tasks.
