ABOUT LONGBOARDS WILLIAMSBURG


Longboards Williamsburg is a locally owned restaurant offering a fun, welcoming atmosphere, great food and genuine hospitality. We are looking for a hands-on Front of House Manager / Assistant General Manager who can lead our service team, improve consistency and take ownership of daily front-of-house operations.


Our kitchen is managed separately by an experienced Kitchen Manager, allowing this position to focus primarily on the guest experience, front-of-house employees and smooth shift execution.

POSITION OVERVIEW


The Front of House Manager is responsible for leading servers, bartenders, hosts, bussers and shift leads while maintaining a positive, efficient and guest-focused environment.


The right candidate will be visible on the floor, comfortable coaching employees in real time and able to handle both busy services and unexpected challenges calmly. This is a working management position—not an office-only role.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


• Lead daily front-of-house operations and serve as Manager on Duty


• Provide visible leadership during lunch, dinner and high-volume shifts


• Create and maintain the front-of-house employee schedule


• Monitor labor and adjust staffing based on business levels


• Train and develop servers, bartenders, hosts, bussers and shift leads


• Establish and consistently enforce service standards


• Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate daily priorities


• Coach employees and address performance or attendance concerns


• Assist with interviewing, hiring and onboarding new FOH employees


• Ensure opening, closing, side-work and cleaning duties are completed properly


• Visit tables, interact with guests and resolve concerns professionally


• Handle guest recovery in a way that protects both the guest relationship and the restaurant


• Monitor ticket times and communicate effectively with the Kitchen Manager


• Maintain strong teamwork between the front and back of house


• Oversee employee checkouts, cash drawers and closing paperwork


• Monitor discounts, voids, comps and other transactions for accuracy


• Help increase sales through suggestive selling, staff training and excellent service


• Enforce restaurant policies consistently and fairly


• Maintain a clean, safe and organized dining room, bar, host area, restrooms and outdoor dining areas


• Communicate maintenance, staffing and operational concerns to ownership


QUALIFICATIONS


• At least two years of restaurant experience


• Previous experience as a restaurant manager, assistant manager, FOH manager or experienced shift leader preferred


• Strong leadership, communication and conflict-resolution skills


• Experience supervising servers, bartenders and other FOH employees


• Ability to train, coach and hold employees accountable


• Comfortable working with restaurant POS and scheduling systems


• Basic understanding of labor costs, scheduling and cash controls


• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during busy shifts


• Strong attention to cleanliness, organization and guest service


• Reliable transportation and dependable attendance


• Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required by the business


• Ability to stand and move throughout extended shifts and lift up to 30 pounds when necessary
