Front of House Associate

Marin Theatre seeks a patient, attentive, and enthusiastic Front of House Associate to ensure all our patrons receive the highest level of customer service. Marin Theatre is located in the beautiful city of Mill Valley, California. Founded in 1966 as the Mill Valley Center for the Performing Arts, our organization has built a national reputation within the American theatre landscape and played an important role in the arts ecosystem of Marin county for nearly 60 years. Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least one year of customer service experience interacting and engaging with diverse groups of people, both on the phone and in person.
  • Skills in problem solving, multitasking, technology, and communication.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Interest in the theatre/arts industry.

Familiarity with Spektrix or other ticketing software is also preferred, as well as a passion for helping and connecting with others.

Schedule:

Regular Box Office hours are Tuesday through Friday 12pm-5pm

Production Box Office hours are Tuesday through Sunday 12pm-8pm.

Job Description:

During performances, the Front of House Associate either works in the Box Office or serves as the House Manager, depending on scheduling needs.

Off-season and between shows, the Front of House Associate sells tickets and subscriptions remotely using phone software. They also address patron questions and requests via phone or email.

Box Office Responsibilities:

  • Provide enthusiastic customer service in all patron interactions.
  • Answer incoming calls, emails, and/or assist walk-up patrons.
  • Sell membership packages, fixed subscriptions, single tickets, and gift vouchers, and complete ticket exchanges using ticketing software.
  • Run Will Call during shows with diligence, patience, and care (includes printing and organizing ticket orders, answering ticketing questions, and helping with accessibility needs)
  • Attend training sessions, meetings, and other events as needed.
  • Assist with any relevant projects that come up throughout the season.

House Manager Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Stage Manager to ensure the show runs smoothly, including seating late patrons and reseating patrons after the show has started.
  • Set up the lobby and shared spaces before each performances (sweeping the floor, turning on monitors, checking bathrooms for supplies, and similar tasks).
  • Conduct an orientation for our volunteer usher before each performance.
  • Create and distribute a House Report electronically to applicable recipients after each performance.
  • Support any FOH associates that need assistance before, during, and after the show.
  • Maintain a high level of communication with all patrons, FOH staff, and other applicable parties.

This is a part-time (approximately 5-10 hours per week, maximum of 28), non-exempt position with a pay rate of $18 per hour, reporting directly to the Box Office Manager.
