Free People is hiring a Senior Accountant to join the team! As Senior Accountant, you will be a key member of the Free People Brand Finance & Accounting team. The role reports to the Brand Accounting Senior Manager. Responsibilities include key role in driving the monthly close cycle and expense control reporting for the Direct e-com (DTC) business channel.
Role Responsibilities:
Responsible for the financial close process for Direct e-com business channels.
Prepares monthly P&Ls and balance sheet reconciliations
Ensure integrity of financial statements with accurate preparation and execution of sales posting, journal entries, accruals, reclassifications
Create monthly reconciliation of accruals and prepaid expenses; determine new accruals needed monthly based on open invoices and expenses
Research variance to budget and LY and craft variance explanations
Manage expense tracking and expense trends with internal business partners with open clear communication to keep expenses inline to budget/forecast guidance
Provide ongoing accounting/business support to brand partners as
Liaison between brand functional area and corporate shared service teams
Prepare ad-hoc reporting in support of brand/division related projects
Consistently monitor, recommend, and implement improvements to current methodologies and practices within the finance department
Support channel budget preparation from topline sales, COGS and SG&A components. Leverage analysis and trending reports from monthly close to provide guidance to business owners.
Partner with internal and external audit teams to support requests and ad-hoc research as needed
Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley financial reporting requirements (including maintenance of policies and procedures)
Role Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
Minimum 3-5 years working in accounting, preferably in retail in retail, apparel, or other consumer-focused industries.
Advanced Excel, ability to utilize and learn accounting software packages; knowledge of Oracle and Hyperion a plus
Strong sense of accountability and ownership, proactive problem-solving skills
Highly organized, motivated and detail oriented.
Team player with a positive attitude
Confident communication skills and ability to lead meetings and proactively manage open items
Experience analyzing financial statements
Proven track record of meeting financial deadlines with complete accuracy
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of GAAP accounting concepts and theories
Ability to work in fast-paced, action-oriented environment
