Job Description:

Fraud Management Specialist

Location: (Hybrid) Open to candidates local to Pensacola, FL, Vienna, VA, or Winchester, VA.

Role Overview

The Fraud Management Specialist will assist business unit management in establishing effective department policies, processes, and standards to balance department goals against financial fraud. This role involves providing recommendations to improve fraud detection systems, ensuring timely resolution of fraud cases, and building cross-functional collaboration with other business units. The specialist will work on fraudulent activity issues requiring a working knowledge of organizational objectives and priorities, operating under supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify patterns of activity indicating possible fraud or account abuse.
  • Monitor account transactions to proactively identify fraudulent activity and take immediate corrective action.
  • Escalate alerts and cases to the appropriate Security division for in-depth investigation.
  • Manage the review and analysis of potential fraud and forgery cases.
  • Track and monitor the progress of fraud cases, informing related parties of status and actions.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers on fraud and security issues.
  • Identify and analyze opportunities for new or improved processes, data, or technology.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert concerning fraud trends.
  • Support projects related to fraud detection, prevention, or root cause analysis.
  • Collect, prepare, and maintain data for analysis, reports, and reference.
  • Establish incident response standards and related training requirements.
  • Collaborate with business areas to understand the impact of transactions and identify potential fraud risks.

Required Qualifications

Education: A bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is required.

Experience: This is a Level 1 role requiring one to five years of relevant experience.

Technical Skills: Basic word processing and spreadsheet software skills are required. Basic database and presentation software skills are also necessary.

  • Familiarity with managing multiple priorities to achieve goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis, and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling.
  • Familiarity with credit union operations, processes, and procedures.
  • Exposure to working with or for depository and lending institutions.
  • Familiarity with NCUA regulations that govern the activities, products, and services of the business unit.
  • Advanced knowledge of the organization's functions, philosophy, operations, and objectives.
