Founding Full-Stack Engineer (Backend/Infra) — Venice Beach, CA
About us:
Our partner is a repeat-founder team building a consumer social + health product. Tagline: Healthmaxxing With Friends. Alpha users love it, and we are ready to hire our first founding full-stack engineer.
The role:
Own the backend and platform from day one. Design clean APIs, data models, and services that feel fast for users. Partner closely with mobile to ship features that drive daily habit and retention. This is staff level and up with real product and architecture influence.
What you’ll do:
- Design, build, and operate APIs, data pipelines, and low-latency services
- Stand up infra as code, CI/CD, observability, alerting, and SLOs
- Work with product to turn ideas into shipped features and measurable wins
- Keep the system secure and reliable as we scale from first thousands to millions
You might be a fit if you have:
- 3–10+ years shipping production software in small, fast teams. Not about years worked but what you’ve built.
- Depth in backend and cloud: one or more of Node.js, Go, Python/Django; AWS; Postgres; queues; caches – full stack skillset with focus on infrastructure and backend.
- Infra hygiene: Terraform or equivalent, CI/CD, on-call experience
- Performance stories: reduced P90/P95, improved uptime, or scaled high-traffic flows
- Product sensibility and comfort owning ambiguous, zero-to-one work
Nice to have:
- Mobile touchpoints: React Native, Swift/SwiftUI, or Android/Kotlin
- Regulated data exposure: HIPAA, SOC 2, FHIR
- Social, fitness, or health app experience
Location and setup:
Hybrid in Venice Beach. West Coast preferred. Relocation supported within 6–12 months. Competitive comp with strong equity.
