Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (AI) - Remote
About the Role
Apex is seeking a highly experienced Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to drive business transformation through cutting-edge AI and enterprise technology. As an FDE, you will work directly with business leaders and operational teams to define real-world challenges, rapidly prototype AI solutions, and deliver measurable business value. This is an opportunity to operate at the intersection of AI innovation and business strategy, with significant exposure to executive leadership and cross-functional teams. You will thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI-powered enterprise solutions.
Responsibilities
- Partner with executive stakeholders and operational teams to identify high-impact opportunities for AI-driven transformation
- Translate complex business problems into actionable technical requirements and solution architectures
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to business and functional leaders
- Architect, prototype, and deliver AI-first solutions, including LLM-powered applications, AI agents, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems
- Rapidly build proofs of concept-delivering results within 90 days-and transition scalable solutions to engineering teams
- Design and integrate APIs, enterprise systems, and third-party platforms to ensure seamless deployment
- Iterate closely with users for validation and continuous improvement
Required Skills and Experience
- 12+ years of combined business, industry, and technology experience
- Demonstrated success working directly within business operations, not solely as a technology provider
- Functional expertise in at least one domain: Legal, Nutrition, Manufacturing, or Service Management
- Strong executive-facing skills; ability to drive transformation initiatives at the highest levels
- Hands-on experience with AI models (OpenAI, Claude, Gemini)
- Experience designing RAG architectures and building AI agents (LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen)
- Strong proficiency in Python
- Proficient in at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred)
- Solid knowledge of SQL, NoSQL, data modeling, ETL/ELT pipeline design
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms (SAP, Salesforce)
- Startup mindset-comfortable in resource-constrained and fast-moving environments
