About the Role
This position is ideal for engineers who are looking to deepen or transition into forensic work. Youll evaluate structural damage, determine root causes, and produce high-quality technical reports that stand up to scrutiny.
The work is dynamicbalancing field investigations and site visits with focused analysis and report writing. Flexibility, curiosity, and responsiveness are key.
Key Responsibilities
Field Investigations:
Conduct site inspections to assess structural damage caused by storms, construction defects, foundation movement, fires, accidents, and other events
Root Cause Analysis:
Evaluate failure mechanisms and develop well-supported engineering conclusions
Technical Reporting:
Prepare clear, concise, and defensible reports with strong attention to detail and quick turnaround expectations
Client Interaction:
Communicate findings and updates to clients, carriers, attorneys, and project stakeholders
Project Ownership:
Manage assignments independently while collaborating with a broader team of subject matter experts
What to Expect
Flexible, Non-Traditional Schedule:
This is not a standard 85 role. Workloads varysome weeks may include multiple site inspections, while others are dedicated to remote analysis and reporting
Travel:
Primarily local and regional travel, typically short-duration site visits with limited overnight requirements
Remote + Optional Office Access:
This is a remote role supported by a Minneapolis office that is availablebut not requiredfor collaboration, knowledge sharing, and team connection
Consistent Project Flow:
Established client relationships across the Minneapolis region support steady and predictable demand
Qualifications
Required:- Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Minnesota (or ability to obtain via reciprocity)
- 2+ years of forensic or related structural engineering experience preferred
- Must have experience with getting on roofs at sites
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities
- Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork, including roof inspections and confined space environments
Preferred:- Experience with forensic investigations or strong interest in transitioning into the field
- Exposure to litigation support or expert witness work
