Job Description

As an Electrical Forensic Engineer, you will investigate electrical system failures and incidents involving residential, commercial, industrial, and utility-related equipment. Working alongside experienced forensic engineers, you will conduct field inspections, analyze physical evidence, perform engineering evaluations, and prepare technical reports for clients, insurance carriers, attorneys, and other stakeholders.

This role combines engineering, field work, and investigative analysis, making it ideal for individuals who are curious, detail-oriented, and passionate about understanding how and why failures occur.

Core Responsibilities

Work Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members

Conduct forensic investigations involving electrical system failures, fires, explosions, equipment damage, and power distribution issues.
Perform site inspections to document conditions, collect evidence, and evaluate electrical components and systems.
Analyze physical evidence, engineering data, testing results, and documentation to determine the cause and origin of failures.
Develop engineering opinions supported by technical analysis, applicable standards, and industry best practices.
Prepare clear, concise, and defensible technical reports summarizing investigative findings and conclusions.
Review electrical drawings, specifications, maintenance records, incident reports, and other relevant documentation.
Perform engineering calculations and technical research to support findings and recommendations.
Assist with litigation support activities, including preparation of exhibits, case documentation, and expert analyses as required.

Operations

Manage assigned investigations while adhering to project schedules and budgets.
Coordinate with clients, insurance carriers, attorneys, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the investigation process.
Maintain accurate field notes, documentation, photographs, and evidence records.
Travel to loss sites and client locations as needed to conduct inspections and investigations.
Support business development initiatives through responsive client service and professional representation of the firm.
Participate in ongoing technical training and professional development activities to expand forensic engineering expertise.

Qualifications & Competencies

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or 5 years of related work experience and no degree.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, but not required

Knowledge & Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a natural curiosity for determining root cause.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a consulting environment.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Professional demeanor and strong client-service orientation.
Sound judgment and the ability to develop objective, evidence-based conclusions.
Familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, IEEE standards, and industry best practices.
Experience with electrical testing, inspection, or forensic investigation methodologies.
Exposure to fire investigations, property loss investigations, or expert consulting environments.

The salary ranges for this role are as follows:

$59,000 - $139,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier AA - Sample Locations: NY Metro, San Franscisco, San Jose, Seattle)

$54,000 - $128,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria)

$50,000 - $118,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier B - Sample Locations - Baltimore, Chicago, Anchorage, Portland)

$45,000 - $107,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier C - Sample Locations - Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Miami)

$43,000 - $102,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier D - Sample Locations - Mississippi, Mobile AL, Bowling Green KY, Tulsa)
