Football Assistant Coach

MANCHESTER PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Assistant Coach / JV / Freshman Coach CERTIFICATION 5-Year Renewable Coaching Permit REQUIREMENTS: Standard First Aid Course and CPR Certificate QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must demonstrate successful coaching experience in the assigned sport. Applicants must have a broad knowledge of the sport and the ability to provide effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and stress the importance of academic achievement for students in grades 9 - 12. Applicant must be able to effectively communicate with student athletes, parents, staff and community members. REPORTS TO: Head Coach / Athletic Director and/ or Principal RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the Head Coach, the coach is responsible for:

Attending all games and practice sessions unless cleared through the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

Collaborating with the Head Coach to: o Develop competition schedules o Monitor academic progress of athletes o Collect permission and medical forms o Coordinate end of season athletic award ceremonies o Issue, collect and inventory athletic equipment and uniforms

Supervising practice and competition facilities during and following team participation.

Develop well-organized practice plans that incorporate fundamental skills and knowledge of the game while encouraging and allowing all athletes to participate.

Monitoring the safety conditions of the facility or area in which sport is conducted at all times that students are present.

Attending all sport specific meetings held by the Central Connecticut Conference and the CIAC as requested by the head coach.

Enforcing discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, leading by example regarding promotion of discipline and sportsmanship.

Maintaining a positive working relationship with other coaches, and when possible identify, support and encourage multi-sport student athletes.

Promoting and reinforcing program goals and philosophies, as defined by the head coach.

Remain current on the coaching certification requirements.

Performing such duties as are consistent with the nature of the position and as may be requested by the Head Coach and / or Athletic Director.
