    Food Service Worker
    HRCAP HeadStart/Early Head Start

    As a Head Start Food Service Worker, you will work 30 hours per week and enjoy paid time off during Spring Break, Summer Break, and Winter Break.

    PURPOSE OF POSITION:Work as a member of thenutrition team and help provide healthy nutritious meals to Head Startstudents. To assist with preparation and storage of food for Head Start childrenas required by Head Start Performance Standards and USDA Guidelines.

    SUPERVISOR:Nutrition Manager

    DUTIES:

    • Transports food toclassrooms within Head Start centers, to provide safe, sanitary, and pleasantmeals for Head Start children and staff.Heats up food in microwave, when necessary.
    • Follow USDAGuidelines and Virginia State Health Regulations.
    • Interacts with staff,students, and families in a friendly manner.
    • Assists the cookin meal preparation of slicing, panning, bagging, labeling, and packaging offood in preparation for delivery and service to Head Start students.
    • Washes dishes,silverware, and pots daily according to State Health regulations of Virginia.
    • Uses spare timewisely to take advantage to complete weekly cleaning schedule.
    • Complete weeklyinventory and maintain all supplies on a first in first out basis.
    • Stores food and supplies properly inaccordance with kitchen policy and procedures, following USDA Guidelines and Virginia State Health Regulations.
    • Ensure all expiredfood items are disposed of and logged in a waste log.
    • Keeps kitchen and all equipment clean andsanitary at all times.
    • Communicate menu /inventory issues with Nutrition Manager so menu corrections and adjustments canbe made.
    • Communicate needsof the classroom to the Cook and Nutrition Manager.
    • Wears properattire and slip resistant shoes daily.
    • Always maintainprofessionalism while in Head Start service.
    • Always maintainsprofessionalism while working at Head Start Agency.
    • Attends staffmeetings as needed.
    • Performs otherduties as assigned by the Nutrition Manager or Director.

    Requirements

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Requires knowledgeand 2 years of experience in their area of Food Service.
    • Must have HighSchool education or GED.
    • Have or completewithin 90 days of employment: Food Service Managers Certification.
    • Must have reliabletransportation and valid VA Drivers License.
    • The ability toread and understand recipes and assigned tasks.
    • Comfortable withuse of email and technology.
    • Flexible inassignments of location, works together as a team.

    PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

    • The ability to lift 30lbs.
    • The ability to stand for long (4 hours or more at a time) periods of time.
    • The ability to withstand the changing extreme hot to cold temperatures ofa kitchen.
