Position Summary

The Bandera Independent School District Food Service Department is seeking an energetic, dependable, and customer-focused Cafeteria Worker to join the Hill Country Elementary team. This position plays an important role in providing nutritious, high-quality meals while creating a positive dining experience for students and staff.

Bandera ISD operates on a 4-day instructional week (MondayThursday), offering employees an excellent work-life balance. Some Fridays are required based on the 2026-2027 school calendar.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check.

Preferred:

  • Previous food service or cafeteria experience.
  • Experience working in a school setting.

Applicants without prior food service experience are encouraged to apply. Bandera ISD will provide on-the-job training for qualified candidates.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with district menus and food safety guidelines.
  • Assist with food preparation, portioning, and presentation.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, work areas, serving lines, and dining areas.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Receive and properly store food and supplies.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Provide friendly and courteous customer service to students, staff, and visitors.
  • Follow all local, state, and federal health, sanitation, and nutrition regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with cafeteria staff to ensure efficient meal service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Manager or Food Service Director.

  • Knowledge of basic food preparation and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students.
