Job Summary

The Child Nutrition Substitute assists with the preparation and service of nutritious meals to students in a school setting. This position supports regular staff as needed and helps ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming cafeteria environment while following all food safety and district guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with food preparation, serving, and portioning meals according to established menus • Operate cafeteria equipment safely (ovens, warmers, dishwashers, etc.) • Serve meals to students in a courteous and professional manner • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, serving lines, dining areas, and storage spaces • Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment • Follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times • Assist with inventory, stocking, and storage of food and supplies • Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff and school personnel • Supervise students during meal service as needed

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred Previous food service experience helpful but not required Food Handler Certification is required Ability to work well with children and staff Knowledge of basic food safety practices (training often provided)

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods Ability to lift and carry up to 30-40 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as required

Work Schedule

On-call / as-needed basis Typically during school hours

Work Environment

School cafeteria and kitchen setting Exposure to heat, cold, and kitchen equipment
