Job Description:
TITLE: ASSISTANT to HEAD COOK
JOB GOAL: To be a contributing member of a team at RSD#7 that provides a quality food service operation to students and staff.
RATE: $20.69- $21.69 per hour per contractual agreement
START DATE: A.S.A.P.
REPORTS TO: Cafeteria Manager and Food Service Director
Major Responsibilities:
- Tasks include preparing food, which includes basic cooking, serving food to students, cleaning kitchen
equipment, using essential food preparation equipment, and assisting in putting away stock/deliveries
- Plan with head cook to determine priorities of the day -Ensure high standards of service and food quality, serve students/staff appetizing food in adequate portions - Ensure that foods are maintained at the proper temperature for storing and serving
- Monitor all foods for quality of taste, texture, and appearance; test new recipes
- Review the planned menu and thaw food products accordingly
- Essential duties include moving heavy packages, boxes, and/or other food-related items as needed.
- Essential duties of this position include twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ensure that established health and safety procedures are followed. Keep abreast of changing
requirements
- Assist the Head Cook in ordering of food for lunches; knowledge and skills in large quantities of food
preparation, cooking, and food handling
- Follows all sanitation and health codes governing food preparation and personal appearance
- Communicate with all staff to ensure there is enough food for all lunch waves
- Maintains, cleans, and sanitizes workstations
- Cleans/sanitizes dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other containers, and returns to the appropriate
location in the kitchen area
- Works with hot ovens, sharp tools, slippery floors, and heavy lifting
- General knowledge of food and nutrition preferred
- Attend all staff meetings called by the Food Service Director/Manager
- Follow all district policies and procedures
- Clean and inventory all equipment and supplies at the end of the school year
- Other duties as may be assigned
- Comply with State Sanitation Guidelines requirements stating that all employees shall keep clean and
wear clean clothes (including an apron) while engaging in handling food, drink, utensils or equipment.
- The use of caps, hairnets, headbands, pins, or other hair restraints is required for all food handlers
- Monthly Inventory
- Plan and execute the use of leftover food in alternative recipes for food service
The Assistant Cook/Kitchen Utility employee will cook in the cafeteria cooks absence.

Essential Requirements:
- Twist, lift, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds - Regularly required to talk and hear
- Frequently required to reach with hands, arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch and twist - Frequently required to taste and smell
- Moves throughout the school kitchen to prepare food and perform other duties- Must be able to push and pull carts
- Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking - May be required to work in excessive heat or cold associated with the kitchen environment
Ten-month year and wage rate as established by the Board per RSD#7 Food Service Contract.
