    BRENTWOOD UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT Job Title: Food Service Assistant Reports to: Food Services Supervisor and Food Service Coordinator Primary Functions: Under general supervision, participate in the preparation and service of food to students and staff and related duties. Performance Responsibilities

    • Assist Food Service Cook/Baker and Kitchen Production Manager in the preparation, cooking, baking, packaging, portioning, service, and storage of all food for students and staff

    • Operates a variety of commercial kitchen utensils and appliances.

    • Maintain health department and District standards of efficiency, safety and sanitation in food preparation and service.

    • Assist Kitchen Production Manager and Cook/Baker in ordering, receiving and maintaining food and supply quality and safety.

    • Accepts, inspects, receives, label, rotate and store food and supplies according to the First-In and First-Out product rotation principles.

    • Monitor and record temperatures of food and equipment using HAACP protocols to assure that Health Department and District policy and quality standards are met.

    • Set up and stock food preparation and service lines.

    • Use computerized Point of Sale (POS) system to serve and record meals, review student records and collect payments in compliance with USDA National School Lunch and School Breakfast requirements.

    • Takes Inventories, assist in accounting for food used daily in meal preparation including end of day food labeling, storage and reporting.

    • Assist in maintaining kitchen facilities and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition; including, but not limited to, preparation counters, sinks, food containers, utensils, food racks, carts, and storerooms; and deep clean all food service equipment.

    • Maintain cooperative and effective working relations with children and adults. Guide student workers and volunteers in policies and procedures to following while in kitchen facilities.

    • Perform all other related duties as assigned

    Recommended Qualifications Knowledge of: Methods of preparing foods in large quantities; state mandated program requirements; proper use of commercial equipment and utensils; HACCP and District Policies and Procedures for sanitation and safety practices to ensure quality and safe operations, basic math and computer skills. Food Safety Manager or Handler Certified, if not, district will provide training and testing.

    Abilities: Understand and follow oral and written directions; communicate effectively; perform basic mathematical calculations; complete assignments independently; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relations with children and adults. Substitute for a Food Service Cook/Baker or Kitchen Production Manager in his/her absence. ADA Requirement: Must have the ability to sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, frequently lift, push, pull, reach, twist, drag, scoop and grasp objects weighing 10-50 lbs. (pots, pans, baking equipment, cases of food, crates of milk, stacks of dishes etc.), Experience: Previous commercial food service experience desired. Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
