Description

This is a full-time 9 month position

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Food Service Manager, the Food Service Assistant performs a variety of semi-skilled duties related to providing support for the daily operation of the Food Court and special college events.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform daily food service routines; help set up and/or preparation for meal services
  • Serve as a Food Court line server during peak times and other times as needed
  • Prepare food items as directed, playing an integral role in the smooth operation of the college food court on a day-to-day basis.
  • Replenish food items as necessary to keep lines moving smoothly.
  • Cleans and stocks food preparation and storage areas to maintain appropriate cleanliness and meet proper food handling protocols and college procedures.
  • Performs daily cleaning duties and weekly deep cleaning duties
  • Assist with food service catering; ensures timely and proper delivery of contracted meal services and events as needed
  • Assist with food and product deliveries; stock and store delivery into inventory.
  • Operate Food Court cash register as needed, following the college's cash handling procedures.
  • Operate within the guidelines set forth in the College's policies, procedures and practices.
  • Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Position Specifications and Minimum Qualifications

  • Education

High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).

Experience

  • Two (2) years of responsible experience performing above or related duties.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Possess and maintain a Wyoming State Food Handlers Permit, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. Possess and maintain "Serve Safe" certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Equivalency Statement

  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of proper food handling procedures.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements
  • Working knowledge of cash register operation, and ten-key operation.
  • Knowledge of CWC Policies and Procedures or ability to learn them.
  • Considerable knowledge of customer service guidelines and practices.
  • Knowledge of health laws related to the foodservice operations.
  • Skill in interpersonal communications
  • Skill in the application of various culinary methods and procedures.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately at cash register.
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion within established deadlines.
  • Ability to perform record keeping and mathematical calculations
  • Ability to work independently to accomplish daily tasks and projects
  • Ability to interact with others in a professional manner and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems related to food service preparations and service delivery;
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, students and the general public.
  • Ability to relate with a diverse population in a professional, helpful manner and be a team player.
  • Ability to promote a positive atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation both with the college, and community.

Level of Supervision

  • Works under the direct supervision of the Food Service Manager.

Equipment Used

  • Work requires use a variety of commercial kitchen cooking and food preparation equipment including ovens, grills, fryers, freezers, refrigerators, knives, slicers, and related.

Physical Requirements

  • Tasks require variety of physical activities, occasionally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing essential to performance of daily duties. Periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs. is common. Typical limb dexterity is needed. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Environmental Conditions
  • Work is performed in a food service setting. Evening or weekend hours may be required.
