Food Safety & Quality Assurance Technician

You start your shift when the plant gets quiet and precision matters most. On third shift in the Skokie/Niles, IL area, you’re the steady hand that keeps a food manufacturing operation compliant, consistent, and safe. From verifying labels to halting a line when something looks off, you’ll be the on-site guardian of product integrity.

Your Night, Step by Step

  • Walk the floor to observe GMP behaviors, food safety practices, and overall product quality in real time.
  • Run in-process inspections on active lines each shift—confirm weights, lot/code dates, labels, and retain samples.
  • Verify and record scale checks; perform metal detector audits and review metal detection records.
  • Place ingredients or finished goods on hold when quality or safety concerns arise.
  • Validate changeovers; conduct ATP swabbing on equipment and environmental swabbing across zones.
  • Complete audits for allergens, glass, brittle plastics, magnets, and metal detection.
  • Prepare and organize retain samples; keep QA supplies inventoried and ready.
  • Lead internal plant audits and keep QA documentation accurate and current.
  • Open maintenance work requests when equipment or facility issues impact quality.
  • Help onboard and train new QA teammates on procedures and documentation.
  • Escalate serious food safety issues quickly—and stop production when needed.
  • Pitch in on additional QA tasks to support the operation.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma (college coursework a plus).
  • 1+ year of QA/QC or operations experience in food manufacturing.
  • Comfort with basic math and careful, consistent documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; safety-first mindset.
  • Self-starter who thrives independently and collaborates well with a team.
