Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of processing and packaging machinery. This role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, strict adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to carry out both preventive and maintenance tasks. The Maintenance Technician also collaborates closely with production and quality teams to minimize downtime and ensure seamless operations across the plant.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of food-processing machinery, including but not limited to; conveyor deep fryers, industrial ovens, searing units, mixers, nitrogen freeze tunnels, packaging equipment, conveyor lines, metal detectors, and x-ray equipment.
  • Conduct regular preventive maintenance (PM) to mitigate breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Respond promptly to machine malfunctions or breakdowns, including possible on-call duties after hours.
  • Perform basic fabrication or part modifications to improve system reliability and performance.
  • Participate in training Production Operators in the use and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols (Lock-Out/Tag-Out, PPE usage, etc.) and foster a safety-first culture within the maintenance team.
  • Utilize tablet to retrieve and complete work orders from CMMS system.
  • Communicate equipment issues, solutions, and potential improvements to supervisors and maintenance staff.
  • Comply with USDA, GMPs, Food Safety Standards, other internal/external standards and procedures.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school coursework or similar mechanical/electrical certification preferred.
  • 2+ years in a maintenance role within an industrial or food manufacturing setting highly desired.
  • Experience with electric pallet jacks or similar material-handling equipment preferred.
  • Experience with nitrogen freeze tunnels, packaging lines (e.g., Multi-Vac, Bosch), HPP or MAP Packaging is a plus.

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, and schematics.
  • Diagnostic skills to resolve mechanical, electrical, and automation issues.
  • Must be fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • Available to work up to 12-hour shifts, some weekends, and be on-call rotation for urgent after-hours repairs.

Working Environment and Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with the assistance of a coworker. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high and precarious places, and extreme heat and cold. While performing regular duties, the employee is also exposed to the possible risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  Must be able to work around food allergens.
