Position Purpose:
Under the direction of the Community Outreach Coordinator, the Food Pantry Clerk is responsible for assisting in the administrative and daily operation of the food service programs for Wesley Health Centers.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Provide a hospitable and welcoming atmosphere for patrons, volunteers and donors to Wesley Health Centers.
- Answer and respond to incoming telephone calls and emails regarding Public Benefits and Work Services questions according to department policy.
- Provide guidance to volunteers with preparation and distribution of groceries.
- Prepare distribution areas for each food pantry location. (set up tables, canopy, etc.)
- Unload groceries and produce as necessary.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary environment in the food pantry storage areas.
- Record temperatures of all fridge/freezer units with correct sheet corresponding the fridge numbers.
- Assist Community Outreach Coordinator maintaining inventory logs of all food and donations received.
- Maintain organization in pantry and documentation.
- Clean and maintain the food pantry. (i.e. cutting down boxes, disinfect, wipe down)
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- One year of experience in food service or meal preparation in residential facility, cafeteria, or commercial food establishment.
- Knowledge of food storage, preparation, and menu planning.
- Position requires mandatory attendance on the day before, day of, and day after holidays.
- Must possess a valid California Driver's license and access to a properly registered vehicle.
Preferred:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Experience in nonprofit setting.
- California Department of Health Food Safety Card.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of food pantry and office materials weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.
