Food Packaging Quality Assurance Technologist
Join a global food-packaging operation in Spartanburg, SC as a direct-hire, full-time Quality professional. You’ll be the daily engine behind our quality and food-safety systems for paper packaging used by the restaurant industry.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour, depending on experience and education
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
- Employment: Direct hire, full time
Role Snapshot
You’ll support the Quality Manager in shaping and executing the site’s Quality Management System and food-safety programs in alignment with BRC/SQF, ISO 9001, and customer requirements. Your work keeps our certification standards strong and our customers confident.
Day in the Life
8:00 a.m. Start on the floor: walk Finished Goods quarantine areas, verify product quality (visual checks, logo color accuracy, measurements, labeling, rub testing) using scales, calipers, rulers, color swatches, and other instruments.
Late morning Facilitate training: lead Quality @ Source for new hires, deliver Work Instruction Competency Training, and support refresher sessions. Coordinate with the Quality Manager and HR Manager to close training gaps. Assist with root cause analyses and evidence gathering for investigations.
Midday Audit and verify: conduct internal audits per the Quality Audit Verification Program; perform competency checks during Process Audits; carry out off-line lab testing; collect, print, verify, and file QA documentation.
Afternoon Traceability and reporting: track FSC Chain of Custody and Food Safety Traceability in the ERP system. Compile monthly reports (CAYG Common Area Measures, Housekeeping audit reports, Quality Contact data) and post Process, Housekeeping Audit, and Quality Contact scores to the Quality Scorecard.
Late afternoon Close the loop: initiate supplier NCRs; reconcile quarantine reports and physical quarantined goods with the Raw Material Inventory Controller; process disposals for rejected/defective goods, keep records/registers current; collaborate with Production, Warehouse, Sales/Customer Service, Supply Chain, and liaise with customers and external auditors.
Must‑Have Background
- Recent (4+ years) experience as a Quality Technician in manufacturing, performing comparable responsibilities
- Hands-on quality experience in food or food-packaging; paper packaging is a plus
- Strong command of HACCP and experience in BRC/SQF and ISO 9000/9001 certified environments
- Internal auditing/reporting; familiarity with GFSI audit structures preferred
- High School diploma or GED
- Root cause analysis participation and data-driven investigations
- Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy (reports, NCRs, documentation)
- Professional communication; customer-facing quality communication preferred
- Experience delivering quality-related training to new hires and production teams preferred
- Problem-solving agility; independent work style; strong sense of urgency
- Comfort converting U.S. customary to metric units
- Ability to successfully pass a color-blind test
- Proficient computer/data entry skills; intermediate MS Office and ERP experience
Key Responsibilities
- Execute comprehensive product checks on paper packaging (visuals, color/logo verification, measurements, labeling, rub testing) with appropriate gauges and tools
- Review Finished Goods quarantine areas daily; help decide disposition based on risk and customer expectations
- Deliver Work Instruction Competency Training; provide Quality @ Source for all new employees; support Quality Refresher training
- Coordinate with the Quality Manager and HR Manager on training needs
- Assist with root cause analysis and data collection for investigations
- Maintain FSC Chain of Custody and Food Safety Traceability within ERP
- Perform internal audits per the Quality Audit Verification Program; conduct competency testing during Process Audits
- Collect, verify, and archive QA documentation; perform off-line laboratory tests
- Assemble monthly metrics: CAYG Common Area Measures, Housekeeping audits, Quality Contacts; update Quality Scorecard

- Process disposals for rejected/defective goods; manage stakeholder coordination; maintain disposal records/registers
- Collaborate internally with Production, Warehouse, Sales/Customer Service, and Supply Chain; interact externally with Customers and External Auditors
- Assist with additional projects/duties as needed
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Focused, hands-on work requiring close concentration and manual dexterity
- Frequent presence on the production floor

- Ability to stand, walk, and move across plant areas for extended periods
- Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds
