FOIA Document Production Assistant

Seeking for a detail-oriented FOIA Document Production Assistant to support the review, analysis, and production of records in response to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The successful candidate will assist with evaluating FOIA requests for perfection, determining record responsiveness, identifying information protected from disclosure, and supporting accurate and timely document production.
This position requires a solid understanding of FOIA requirements and exemptions, strong research and analytical abilities, critical thinking skills, and exceptional attention to detail.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze FOIA requests to determine perfection status and identify whether additional information or clarification is required.
- Review records to determine whether they are responsive to FOIA requests.
- Analyze responsive records to identify information that may be exempt from disclosure under applicable FOIA exemptions.
- Identify sensitive, privileged, confidential, or otherwise protected information contained within records.
- Assist with appropriate document redactions and preparation of records for production.
- Evaluate records for segregability to determine whether non-exempt portions can be released.
- Conduct legal and factual research related to FOIA requests, exemptions, disclosure requirements, and document review issues.
- Maintain accuracy and consistency when reviewing large volumes of records.
- Document review decisions and maintain organized records throughout the FOIA production process.
- Follow established procedures, legal requirements, and quality-control standards for document review and production.
- Escalate complex or uncertain disclosure issues to appropriate FOIA specialists, attorneys, or supervisors as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge and understanding of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
- Experience reviewing and analyzing records to determine responsiveness to FOIA requests.
- Knowledge of and experience working with FOIA exemptions.
- Experience conducting legal and factual research.
- Ability to identify sensitive, privileged, confidential, or protected information.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy during document review.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple records and review assignments.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive or confidential information.
