Knot Sawyer Operator

Position Overview

We’re looking for a reliable Knot Sawyer Operator to help prepare lumber for production. In this role, you’ll operate and monitor sawmill equipment to cut around knots and other imperfections. You’ll help keep work safe, meet quality standards, and maintain a steady pace in a busy manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate knot saws and related machinery to meet production needs.
• Check lumber for knots and other defects, and identify sections that need trimming or recutting.
• Position materials and adjust saw settings to make accurate, consistent cuts.
• Watch for equipment problems or production issues and report them promptly.
• Complete routine cleaning, basic maintenance, and safety checks.
• Handle, sort, and move lumber according to workplace procedures.
• Keep your work area clean and organized while meeting production and quality goals.
• Follow safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience with sawmill, woodworking, or other production equipment is preferred.
• Experience recognizing lumber features and defects is an asset.
• Comfort working with industrial equipment and using basic mechanical skills.
• Ability to follow instructions, production requirements, and safety procedures.
• Careful attention to detail and a focus on producing quality work.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a production team.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Ability to stand and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
• Ability to lift, carry, or move materials as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Willingness to work around sawmill noise, wood dust, and moving machinery while using required protective equipment.
