Position Summary:
Performs flight coordination activities including processing calls for UT LIFESTAR helicopter transport, telecommunications, information management and flight following. Performs coordination for UT Medical Ground EMS activities including processing calls for ambulance transport, telecommunications, information management and tracking. Facilitates patient acceptance following acceptance protocols developed by UT Medical Centers of Excellence to coordinate patient acceptance into the University of Tennessee Medical Center including coordination with specialty teams for critical transport. Performs the functions of the Regional Medical Communication Center as designated including messaging, information sharing, and MCI coordination.

a. Maintains and presents a positive program image for internal and external customers, patient families, and visitors.
b. Conducts public affairs activities under coordination of Outreach Coordinator, Operations Manager, and/or Program Director.
c. Maintains appropriate professional demeanor with program staff members, internal, and external customers with no justified complaints.
d. Develops and maintains professional associations and relationships with referring agencies and facilities.
Efficiency and Effectiveness
Conducts specialty assignments and projects as assigned by Communication Coordinator, Operations Manager or Program Director.
a. Accepts assignments and proceeds with minimal assistance. b. Assignments are completed within established timeframes.
Functions as Communications Specialist.
a. Processes requests for on- scene, inter facility, specialty requests and Ground EMS. Allocates resources appropriately per operational policies and procedures, and/or at the direction of the Program Director, Communications Coordinator.
b. Accurately completes Communication Center records and logs, both electronic and paper.
c. Communicates pertinent operational information to crew members, program supervision, internal/external customers or other approved parties.
d. Utilizes and interprets accurately navigation information
e. Performs the function of the Regional Medical Communication Center as designated.
f. Completes daily activities of Communication Center per policy.
g. Appropriate utilization of PAIP and other staff notification protocols and procedures.
h. Assists in the processing of Acceptance Protocol transfers.
i. Coordinates/facilitates patient acceptance into UTMC in conjunction with the Patient Placement Center.
j. Perform other duties as assigned by the Communication Center Coordinator, Operations Manager and to follow chain of command.
Position Qualification:
Education
Associates in Graduate of EMT or Paramedic Program, Preferred
Experience
Three years experience in Air Medical Communications or 911/EMS Dispatch
OR
Three years experience (recent) patient care in a 911 EMS system
Years of Experience can be related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Basic Life Support
Valid TN Driver's License
EMT IV or Paramedic
Tennessee EMT-IV licensure (National Registry EMT preferred),
ITLS/PHTLS certification
NAACS Certification preferred, but not required,
EMD Certification preferred, but not required
