    Description

    Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill a Flight Controls Engineer Job in Wilmington, MA. This full-time job is available with one of our key customers in the defense and aerospace industry. In this role, you will contribute to the design of next-generation high-performance coaxial drones, developing control laws, supporting rotorcraft simulation, and analyzing flight test data to validate control system designs. To be successful in this position, you must have a strong background in flight control systems, flight dynamics, classical controls, and embedded C/C++ and MATLAB. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced technical environment and enjoys solving complex multidisciplinary problems, with some domestic and international travel required.

    Flight Controls Engineer Job Responsibilities:

    • Develop control laws to maximize the performance of coaxial rotorcraft and work with aerospace engineers to develop accurate simulators of rotorcraft physics and subsystems.
    • Perform analysis to support design reviews, plan and execute flight tests, and analyze flight test data to validate control law designs.
    • Support customers integrating payloads or expanding drone capabilities and collaborate with other engineering disciplines in the planning, design, and development of new products.
    • Contribute to the development and tuning of flight control systems for small rotorcraft and electric powertrains while supporting system-level autonomy, performance, and safety.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement and drive projects forward with minimal supervision while working collaboratively across engineering teams.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of post-graduate work experience working on flight control systems.
    • Strong analytical skills with a background in flight dynamics and classical controls, along with proficiency in MATLAB and C/C++ running in an embedded environment.
    • Familiarity with system identification and flight control design methods, with familiarity or willingness to learn CIFER and CONDUIT tools.
    • Familiarity with ArduPilot, PX4, or equivalent open-source autopilots, along with experience tuning control systems for electric powertrains and developing control laws for small rotorcraft.
    • Familiarity with extended Kalman filters and other sensor fusion techniques, with strong interpersonal and customer-focused skills and the ability to solve complex multidisciplinary problems in a fast-paced environment.
