    Description

    Whitlam Group is looking for a motivated, mechanically inclined Press Trainee to join our manufacturing team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with machinery, solving problems and learning a skilled trade in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

    As Press Trainee, you’ll work side-by-side with experienced Flexographic Press Operators, receiving hands-on training in the setup, operation and maintenance of printing presses used to produce high-quality pressure-sensitive and specialty labels. Through our structured on-the-job training, you’ll build the technical skills needed to advance into a Press Operator position.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Learn to safely set up, operate and maintain flexographic printing presses under the guidance of experienced operators.  
    • Assist with press setup, including loading substrates, installing anilox rolls and preparing inks.  
    • Support press operation while monitoring print quality and identifying defects.   
    • Help perform job changeovers, wash-ups and cleaning to maximize production efficiency.
    • Conduct basic quality inspections using visual standards and measurement tools.
    • Assist with minor equipment troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
    • Maintain accurate production and quality records.
    • Return materials, dies and tooling to proper storage locations.
    • Keep the press area clean, organized and safe.  
    • Work closely with operators, supervisors and teammates to meet production and customer quality expectations.  
    • Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement initiatives. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

      REQUIRED

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Previous printing experience.  
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in learning industrial equipment.
    • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
    • Basic math and measurement skills.
    • Ability to read and follow work instructions and job documentation.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Reliable attendance and a positive attitude.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.  
    • Ability to successfully complete a Munsell Hue Color Vision Test (administered during the hiring process)
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
    • Technical or vocational education in printing or flexography.
    • Experience with UV, water-based and/or solvent-based ink systems.
    • Knowledge of anilox rolls, plate mounting, registration and impression adjustments.

    PREFFERED

    Schedule: First shift, Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm.

    Work Environment: Year-round climate-controlled manufacturing facility.
