    UPMC Passavant is hiring an experienced Medical Assistant to support our Colorectal Surgery Department at the McCandless location. This is a patient‑facing role in a fast‑paced specialty environment, ideal for MAs who enjoy working both independently and as part of a large care team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations and maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.

    • Obtain and process lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.

    • Complete necessary forms and schedule appointments.

    • Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.

    • Prepare and manage patient charts.

    • Perform front office tasks as needed.

    • Prepare and clean patient rooms and equipment according to protocols.

    • Maintain inventory and restock supplies.

    • Organize patient flow and assist patients with various needs.

    • Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings.

    • Relay instructions to patients and families.

    • Answer calls and provide patient education.

    • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information.

    • Comply with regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health along with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures

    • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

    • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 3-5 years of Medical Assistant experience
    • Experience with high‑level disinfection of scopes*
    • Prior Epic Care experience*
    • Can be taught

    Licenses, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
    • Act 34
