Jet Stream Cuisine | Kansas City, MO
Jet Stream Cuisine is a growing aviation catering company specializing in elevated culinary experiences and provisioning for private, corporate, and commercial aviation throughout the Kansas City area.
We are looking for an experienced, dependable Flex Catering Chef to join our culinary team.
This is not a traditional restaurant schedule. Aviation catering operates around aircraft departures, and our production needs can change quickly. Some weeks may be quiet, while others are extremely busy. Orders are frequently received within 24 hours of delivery and occasionally only a few hours beforehand.
We are looking for someone who thrives in that environment: organized, adaptable, calm under pressure, and comfortable with a flexible schedule.
Part-time, variable-hour position
Weekly hours fluctuate based on catering volume
Employees provide their availability in advance
Shifts are offered as catering orders are received
Many shifts are offered with 4 24 hours' notice
4-hour minimum pay when called in for a scheduled shift
Additional hours may be available during high-volume weeks
No guaranteed number of weekly hours
This position can be an excellent fit for an experienced chef seeking additional income, someone with another flexible position, a freelance/private chef, banquet or catering professional, or someone who simply prefers a nontraditional work schedule.
$22- $25/hour, depending on experience.
Additional compensation may be available for extremely short-notice or rush production calls.
Our kitchen produces everything from individual private-aircraft meals and crew meals to multi-aircraft and commercial aviation catering orders.
Responsibilities include:
Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, appetizers, platters, and desserts
Execute Jet Stream Cuisine recipes and SOPs consistently
Prepare individual passenger and flight crew meals
Manage hot and cold food production
Assemble and beautifully present catering and platters
Portion and package food specifically for aircraft service
Follow labeling, allergen, storage, and reheating requirements
Assist with order organization and production planning
Maintain excellent food safety and sanitation standards
Monitor inventory and identify purchasing needs
Shop for groceries, ingredients, beverages, and catering supplies
Source specialty provisions and client-requested products from local vendors
Pick up provisions and products as needed
Prepare orders for aircraft/FBO delivery
Deliver catering and provisions to Kansas City-area airports, FBOs, hangars, and aviation clients
Assist with kitchen organization, cleaning, stocking, and inventory
Prepare advance-production and freezer items during slower production periods
This is a hands-on position. On any given shift, you may move between cooking a passenger entr e, building a charcuterie platter, sourcing a specific beverage requested by a flight attendant, packaging an aircraft order, and delivering it to an FBO.
We need someone who is capable, dependable, resourceful, and detail-oriented.
Aviation catering is deadline-driven. Aircraft departure times are firm, and accuracy matters.
The ideal candidate:
Has professional culinary, catering, banquet, hotel, private-chef, or similar experience
Has strong fundamental cooking and knife skills
Can confidently work from recipes and SOPs
Works efficiently and independently
Is highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks
Maintains quality while working under tight deadlines
Understands proper food handling and sanitation
Has excellent attention to detail
Is comfortable shopping and sourcing unfamiliar or specialty products
Is comfortable making local pickups and aircraft/FBO deliveries
Communicates promptly when accepting or declining offered shifts
Is receptive to feedback and standardized procedures
Takes pride in producing beautiful food
Understands that reliability is essential in aviation
Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required due to shopping, sourcing, pickups, and delivery responsibilities.
Experience in aviation catering is helpful but not required. We can teach the aviation-specific details to the right culinary professional.
Jet Stream Cuisine was founded by a private aviation flight attendant with more than a decade of experience serving passengers aboard private aircraft.
Our approach to catering is different because we understand what happens after the food leaves the kitchen.
From portioning and packaging to reheating, presentation, provisioning, and aircraft delivery, every detail is considered with the cabin experience in mind.
We are building a flexible, dependable culinary team that can grow alongside the company.
