Fleet Technician

Reports to Maintenance and Operations Director KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Capable of servicing and repairing modern vehiclesEmissions testing for the state of TexasVehicle diagnosticsWorking knowledge of automotive HVAC systemsDemonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systemsBasic computer skills, preferably experience with asset management softwareMust be able to communicate well with othersUse of two post lift and other common automotive shop tools MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent experience. Valid Texas Driver's LicenseAutomotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification A1-A9 or G1 with ability to obtain othersEPA 609 Certification or ability to obtainMust have or obtain TX DPS vehicle inspector's certificate within 6 months of hire WORKING CONDITIONS: This position works in an office, warehouse, shop, vehicle and outdoors.

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & OperationsSUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on County owned vehicles. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Performs preventative maintenance necessary to ensure the proper functioning of vehicles and component partsPerforms oil, lube and filter changes, air filter changesPerforms vehicle diagnostics using electronic scan equipmentPerforms minor vehicle repair such as belt and hose replacements, brake pads, shoes, drums and rotor replacementEvaluates repairs needed and safety of vehicle and provides recommendations to fleet directorsOperates a variety of hand, power and shop toolsCleans and maintains shop facilities and equipmentResponds to service calls for assistance, retrieves or repairs vehicles in the field as neededTransports vehicles to various locationsCollaborates with vendorsPerforms vehicle emissions testingAttends training to stay current in vehicle repairsMaintains inventory for common vehicle repairs and maintenanceTroubleshoots, removes, installs emergency vehicle equipmentPerforms other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY/BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIES:This position has no supervisory or budget responsibility. There is occasional exposure to environmental factors, however physical hazards occur daily. Health and safety conditions are low. Protective equipment includes back belt, safety glasses and gloves. Standing, fine dexterity, walking, reaching, handling, vision, balancing, bending, hearing, twisting and talking are constantly required.
