    • Job Title: Fleet Tech I
    • Pay Grade: 2026 base $22.88
    • Employment Status: Full-Time

    • Reports To: Fleet Manager and/or supervisor or another designee
    • Supervisory Responsibility: None
    • Primary Work Location: Shop located at Public Works and/or other locations in Town as needed

    • 1.* Position Summary:

      Perform maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs on cars, trucks, and off-road equipment in a safe, efficient, quality minded and customer focused manner. Perform maintenance and repairs on small equipment and engines to manufacturer's guidelines to maintain the safety and reliability of the unit.

      2.* Essential Responsibilities:

      These are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties.

    • * Perform repair work on vehicles such as breakdowns, malfunctions and emergency roadside repair in a safe, efficient, and quality manner.
    • * Perform operation test prior to repairs to verify complaint
    • * Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturers specifications including engines, transmissions and clutches, suspension and steering, fuel and ignition (gas and diesel), electrical systems, brakes, and HVAC systems
    • * Follow paper-flow procedures including documenting correct mileage/hours, save and tag all warranty and core parts, document all repairs on work order using complaint, cause, and correction format, follow parts ordering/billing procedures.
    • * Perform final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check all repairs
    • * Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment to maximize the safety, productivity, and life of the unit.
    • * Perform DOT inspections
    • * Perform preventive maintenance on trucks such as fluid changes, lubrications, safety inspections, and brake repairs.
    • * Perform preventive maintenance on off-road equipment such as lubrications, adjustments, cutting tip replacements, and safety inspections.
    • * Examine vehicle to determine if any additional safety or repair work is needed.
    • * Perform maintenance and repair welding on equipment. Fabricate parts as required including any design work needed
    • * Inspect for cracks or damage to assess needed repair
    • * Fabricate parts as needed to complete repair including any design work
    • * Perform Mig welding and stick welding job. Use a plasma cutter when needed.
    • * Must maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes harmonious relations with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.

    • 3.* Education:

    • * High school diploma or equivalent

    • 4.* Experience:

    • * 4 years' related experience as a vehicle or HD truck technician

    • 5.* Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • * Engines and controls
    • * Transmissions and controls
    • * Brakes and suspensions
    • * Hydraulics and ANSI A92.2 guidelines
    • * Various vehicles and equipment such as digger/derricks
    • * Diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on trucks and equipment
    • * Welding and cutting
    • * DOT inspections
    • * Operate various pieces of equipment such as backhoes and trenchers
    • * Work with minimal supervision
    • * Accurately follow all directives and safety protocols
    • * Manual labor
    • * Regular and timely attendance
    • * Perform duties in a safe manner
    • * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town employees, contractors, property owners, representatives from other agencies, and the public
    • * Express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

    • 6.* ADA Requirements:

    • * This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 40 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
    • * Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
    • * Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels mental acuity is required to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes

    • 7.* Additional Requirements:

    • * Possession and retention of a valid motor vehicle operator's license

    • o* All motor vehicle violations must be reported to supervisor immediately and a good driving record is required to retain position

    • * Must pass testing for substance abuse and criminal background investigation as required by DOT
    • * Required to pass testing of physical strength and agility to qualify for and retain position, per DOT standards

    • •* Commercial Driver's License (CDL) must be obtained within the first six months of employment
