The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall productivity and performance of their assigned drivers and tractors. The FM will accomplish this through ongoing review of key performance indicators, followed by active participation in strategies to positively affect results. The FM is expected to address issues that go beyond the scope of regular daily activity. Must be well organized, an excellent communicator and have a keen sense of timeliness in prioritizing personal and fleet activities.
Locations: Amherst, WI/Kutztown, PA/Auburn, ME
Hours: 8:00-5:00 pm Monday through Friday
Tractor Utilization:
Ensure that their assigned fleet of tractors is utilized in the best interests of the company. In its basic form, this responsibility means maximizing the number of days per month that tractors are productive. This includes the following:
Personal involvement in driver time off and work schedule discussions in order to ensure that driver capacity is maximized and matches customer demands (eg: Creating truck shares, or getting drivers to o leave home Sunday pm vs Monday am.)
Clear understanding of all driver/tractor availability in order to ensure that capacity is fully captured. (Includes drivers/tractors on assigned fleet and others.)
Participation in shop scheduling for anticipated maintenance downtime to be as strategic as possible
Active involvement in breakdowns to ensure down-time is minimized
Communication of specific driver needs to planning group to best maximize the truck
Driver Productivity:
Ensure that their assigned drivers are meeting productivity targets. These goals will be achieved through driver days of work contribution, as well as effective planning and dispatching by Operations. This responsibility includes:
Establishing suitable goals with each driver and ensure that the targets are reached, or if not reached, the problems are identified and acted upon accordingly
Regularly monitoring days worked vs days off, acting upon drivers who aren't available enough
Active involvement in driver planning - by proactively working through the Planning Group
Involved in driver selection process for scheduled lanes
Ongoing management of driver performance outside of mileage and day of work, with focus on company policy and procedures as per the driver manual, this includes safety and compliance issues, operational issues, and employee reviews
