Description

Carys Fleet Division is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative automotive repair professional to assist our team during our annual leaf collection and inclement winter weather season, lasting from approximately October through February. This is a seasonal position, working 40 hours per week. Work may require a flexible schedule with most hours scheduled Monday through Friday, with the weekend work if needed.

This Seasonal Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for skilled mechanical work on a variety of automotive, small engine, construction and specialized equipment. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Fleet Coordinator.

This is a seasonal, non-benefited position, 40 hours a week for a maximum of 5 months and 29 days.

Typical Tasks

Diagnoses, repairs, and overhauls brake systems, ignition and fuel systems, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and on-board computer systems;

Performs scheduled preventive maintenance service;

Processes work orders through the FASTER fleet management software;

Performs service, repair and replacement work, cleaning and replacing spark plugs, installing radiator hoses, and replacing belts;

Overhauls engines;

Changes, repairs and replaces tires;

Services specialized hybrid and electric vehicles and diagnosis of related electrical malfunctions;

Performs cooling system repairs; removes and replaces radiators, hoses, and water pumps;

Tunes engines using standard testing equipment;

Diagnoses electrical shorts--installing batteries and terminals, repairing and adjusting lights, and repairing generators and starters;

Assists other mechanics in more difficult or heavy work;

Performs field servicing of vehicles to repair or replace tires, batteries, or other cases of operational failure;

Accesses database to enter information on work orders and assign labor hours;

Participates in cleaning shop area;

Completes repair forms;

Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used in the repair of equipment; skill in the use and the operations of tools and machinery used in equipment repair work; ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken parts; ability to keep records of parts and time for repairs and service operations; ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems; ability to obtain ASE certifications; ability to access database to enter information on repairs; ability to follow oral and written instruction accurately.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and 1-3 years of experience in repairing a variety of automotive and heavy equipment.
