    Job Title: Fleet Maintenance Assistant
    Location: Dickinson ND
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
    Schedule: Mon-Fri, with the occasional weekend due to truck maintenance, operations requests, etc. Daytime hours.
    Driver: Yes - Limited

    Job Summary Primary responsibility is to assist the Operations department with maintaining and repairs of all commercial fleet vehicles and facility equipment.
     
    Essential Duties
    • Perform fleet vehicle maintenance as requested
    • Assist with ensuring all DOT vehicles are in compliance with DOT regulations
    • Assist with facility pumps and systems maintenance
    • Maintain an effective and organized work space
    • Assist with cleaning the shop
    • Safe operation and maintenance of all equipment and tools
    • Follows proper hazardous waste disposal procedures
    • Responsible for following Health, Safety, and Environmental procedures in the shop
    • Special projects as needed

    Other Qualifications 
    Education/Experience: High school diploma/GED or at least 1 year of relevant work experience. Strong understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanics preferred. Equipment operations (such as forklifts) preferred.
    Certifications/Licenses: Forklift/loader certification preferred. CDL beneficial but not required.
    Driving Requirements: Follow all FMCSA and DOT regulations, where applicable. May be required to drive a light duty vehicle for parts.
     
    Physical Requirements – Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 55 pounds chest high. Tip and move 55-gallon drums, weighing up to 600 pounds with the use of equipment and/or vehicles. Must be able to reach, push, pull, and grasp with arms and hands. Will require fine motor skills and daily standing, crouching and/or kneeling, sitting, walking, driving, climbing, and transitioning in/out of vehicles.  Must be able to talk, hear, and feel attributes of objects or temperatures by touching with the skin. Required to have the visual acuity to safely and legally operate motor vehicles, close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    Work Environment – Indoors and outdoors, with some exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme winter weather, precipitation. and wind. Includes potential exposure to harmful chemicals, dust, odors, fumes, oil. and gases. Noise level is typically moderate, occasionally loud
    Communication Skills – Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as providing excellent customer service.
    Language Skills – Ability to read, interpret, and understand documents such as safety rules, safety data sheets (SDSs), operating instructions, and procedure manual. English language fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehending. Bilingual is beneficial.
    Cognitive Skills – Ability to read and follow detailed work orders, maintenance manuals, and manufacturer specifications while accurately diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues across a range of fleet vehicles. Requires strong attention to detail and situational awareness to safely inspect, service, and troubleshoot equipment in a shop or roadside setting. Must prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment while coordinating repairs, parts ordering, and accurate completion of maintenance logs and service documentation.
    Business Acumen – Good understanding of fleet maintenance operations and the business practices that support them. Must understand concepts of work order management, parts inventory, service billing, and preventive maintenance scheduling to help ensure efficient shop operations and accurate recordkeeping.
    Computer Skills – Efficiently navigate a web browser, mobile applications, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Teams, Word, SharePoint, etc.), and electronic timesheets. Must possess a smartphone with internet access.
    Work Ethic – Be trustworthy, dependable, respectful, and truthful with a commitment to safety and excellent customer service. Follow policies and procedures and take responsibility for your own actions.
     
    Must pass pre-employment drug test, background check, motor vehicle record check, and education/work experience verification.
