Rotating Equipment Manager
Location: Martinez, CA
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $127,000.00 – $270,000.00/ year
(commensurate with scope of role, experience, education, and internal equity)
Role Overview
Our client is seeking a high-performing Fixed and
Rotating Equipment Manager to join their team in Martinez, CA. This
leadership role provides strategic direction and technical oversight to the
site's Fixed and Rotating Equipment engineering teams to ensure safe, reliable,
and compliant plant operations.
Reporting as a key leader within the facility and serving on
the Extended Leadership Team (ELT), you will lead a team of specialized
engineers and specialists, develop asset integrity strategies, and partner
across Operations, Maintenance, Technical Services, and Capital Projects to
optimize equipment performance and support overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Department Management
- Provide
leadership, technical oversight, and direction for Fixed Equipment
Engineers, Corrosion and Materials Engineers, Rotating Equipment
Engineers, and Field Specialists.
- Manage
workforce planning, staffing, succession planning, technical training,
performance evaluations, coaching, and talent development.
- Establish
departmental priorities, allocate engineering resources, and manage
operating budgets.
- Serve
on the Extended Leadership Team (ELT) and act as a senior technical
advisor to site executive leadership.
Asset Integrity & Reliability Strategy
- Formulate
and execute long-term strategies to improve the availability, integrity,
and operational performance of all plant fixed and rotating assets.
- Lead
equipment integrity programs, including corrosion management, condition
monitoring, fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments, machinery reliability,
and risk evaluations.
- Establish
key performance indicators (KPIs) to track asset health, risk reduction,
and team effectiveness.
- Foster
a culture of Shared Stewardship of Assets to drive cross-functional
accountability for equipment health and operational excellence.
Technical Assurance & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Ensure
full compliance with relevant statutory laws, industry codes, regulatory
requirements, and internal engineering standards.
- Partner
closely with Operations, Maintenance, Capital Projects, and Business
Services to support safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible
manufacturing.
- Oversee
technical scope development for capital projects, turnaround work
packages, and major reliability improvement programs.
- Lead
continuous improvement initiatives that reduce operational risk and
enhance plant online factor.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Physical
Demands: Ability to walk up and down stairs, climb ladders, and enter
compact or permit-required confined spaces.
- Environmental
Exposure: Ability to perform field assessments at elevated heights and
outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Schedule
& On-Call: Standard full-time schedule with required availability
for off-hours emergency response and participation in duty rotations.
Extended or altered work schedules may be required during major
maintenance turnarounds and outages.
Candidate Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering
preferred).
- Technical
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of direct experience in fixed
equipment or rotating equipment engineering within the petrochemical,
refining, or chemical processing industry.
- Leadership
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of formal supervisory/management
experience leading engineering teams.
- Credentials:
Valid Driver's License and active TWIC® card (or ability to obtain).
- Demonstrated
expertise in damage mechanisms, fitness-for-service (API 579), vibration
analysis, and machinery reliability frameworks.
- Proven
capability in managing departmental operating budgets and supporting
turnaround (TAR) execution scopes.
- Strong
track record of driving cross-functional alignment between engineering,
maintenance, and plant operations teams.
