Position Overview
Stand-By Personnel is seeking an experienced Fitter / Welder to join a growing fabrication operation in the Tulsa area. This is a skilled position requiring strong fitting, layout, blueprint-reading, and carbon steel welding abilities.
The ideal candidate can independently read fabrication drawings, lay out and fit components to specification, and produce high-quality structural welds. Candidates must have previous Fitter/Welder experience and successfully complete the required 2G and 3G plate weld test using a 6010 root with 7018 fill and cap.
Required Experience & Skills
Previous Fitter / Welder experience required
Strong carbon steel fitting and welding experience
Structural steel fabrication experience
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols
Strong layout and fit-up skills
Experience measuring, positioning, and aligning fabricated components
Proficiency with tape measures, squares, and fabrication measuring equipment
Ability to produce high-quality structural welds
Ability to successfully pass the required weld test
Strong attention to dimensional accuracy and workmanship
Reliable attendance and dependable work history
Strong commitment to workplace and welding safety
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols
Lay out carbon steel components according to specifications
Measure, mark, position, and align materials for fabrication
Fit and assemble structural components prior to welding
Verify fit-up and dimensions before completing welds
Perform structural welding on carbon steel
Produce welds according to required quality standards and specifications
Inspect completed welds for quality and accuracy
Identify and correct fit-up or welding concerns
Operate welding machines, grinders, and fabrication equipment safely
Maintain consistent productivity and workmanship throughout the shift
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
Follow all company safety and production procedures
Perform additional fitting, welding, and fabrication duties as assigned
Fitting & Layout Responsibilities
Candidates should be comfortable independently performing:
Blueprint interpretation
Material layout
Measuring and marking
Structural steel fit-up
Component positioning
Alignment and squaring
Joint preparation
Dimensional verification
Tack-up and preparation for final welding
Fabrication troubleshooting
Strong fitting ability is essential for this position.
Welding Responsibilities
Perform structural welding on carbon steel
Maintain proper welding technique and parameters
Complete welds in required positions
Follow applicable weld symbols and specifications
Maintain consistent penetration and weld profile
Inspect completed work for visible defects
Correct welding concerns when necessary
Maintain high standards for quality and craftsmanship
Weld Test Requirements
Candidates must successfully complete a hands-on weld test consisting of:
2G Position
3G Position
5/8-inch Plate
6010 Root
7018 Fill & Cap
Candidates should be comfortable with both the fitting and welding skills required to successfully complete this test.

Advanced structural Fitter/Welder experience

Strong structural blueprint-reading skills

Experience working independently from fabrication drawings
Previous work in a high-quality industrial fabrication shop

Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs
Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift
Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, positioning, pushing, and pulling
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required for fitting and welding
Ability to safely handle carbon steel and fabricated components
Comfortable working around welding equipment, grinders, sparks, heat, and industrial machinery
Ability to safely perform physically demanding fabrication work while wearing required PPE
Work Environment
Industrial welding and fabrication shop environment
Hands-on structural fitting and carbon steel welding
Regular work involving fabricated steel, welding machines, grinders, measuring equipment, and shop tools
Skilled position requiring independent blueprint reading, layout, fit-up, and welding ability
