The School Fiscal Services Division (SFSD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) is the right team for you. Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Fiscal Analyst is responsible for addressing the complex fiscal issues relative to K-12 education funding and school finance with statewide impact. The incumbent in this position must have current knowledge with regardto state and federal laws, regulations, and CDE policies related to calculating LEA allocations and payments for various federal K-12 education funding programs. Representing the policies and interests of the CDE, this position works closely with numerous state policy makers, school district staff, and county office of education staff to identify, resolve, and advise on technical issues. Based on state and federal laws and regulations, the incumbent will maintain a current list of LEAs with allocated funding for each program and calculate the payments based on LEA expenditure reporting. Attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear and concise records for any exceptions in the funding calculation is critical for this position.

Duties include:

• Calculate allocations and payments and compose supporting informational documents providing information to funding recipients of federal categorical programs.

• Attention to detail and the ability to maintain clear and concise records of any payment irregularities.

• Compile and manage numerous types of data from different sources.

• Prepare legislative analysis of the annual state budget act and legislation related to federal funding and programs in education.

• Consult with and advise CDE managers and staff, as well as education fiscal policy makers, superintendents, and chief business officers on fiscal policy issues and processes related to federal categorical programs.

• Identify, research, and resolve program and fiscal issues.

Personal Leave Program 2025

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range(s) shown on this job posting does not reflect the salary reduction.
