Firmware Test Engineer

Mission:

Design and execute verification tests for company’s BMS software, using both Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop environments.

Responsibilities:

• Translate product requirements into detailed verification tests managed in Jama. 
• Select the appropriate SIL or HIL test strategy for each requirement. 
• Develop and automate test cases using Python and pytest. 
• Verify overall BMS software performance, safety, and reliability. 
• Identify firmware bugs early in the release cycle through systematic testing. 
• Debug complex embedded systems and isolate issues across software and physical electrical hardware. 
• Collaborate with Firmware, Systems, and Hardware teams to improve test coverage and accelerate releases. 
• Document test results, defects, and requirements traceability. 

Must-Haves:

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience. 
• Demonstrated experience with Python and pytest for automated testing. 
• Experience testing and debugging embedded software or firmware. 
• Hands-on experience with embedded communication protocols, particularly CAN. 
• Experience working in HIL environments. 
• Strong electrical hardware debugging experience. 
• Ability to read electrical schematics. 
• Hands-on experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electrical test equipment. 
• Ability to isolate root causes across software logic and physical hardware. 
• Excellent communication and organizational skills. 
• Proactive, hands-on approach with strong personal initiative and collaborative problem-solving skills. 

Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience with both HIL and SIL testing. 
• Battery Management System or energy-storage experience. 
• Jama or comparable requirements-management experience. 
• Experience verifying safety-critical embedded systems. 
• Additional protocol experience with SPI, UART, I2C, or Ethernet. 
• Experience integrating automated firmware tests into CI/CD pipelines.
