You will join a team dedicated to serving the Mountain View community with professionalism, compassion, and respect. Under the direction of a Fire Captain in the Suppression Division, you will provide emergency suppression, pre-hospital emergency care, and emergency medical assistance to those experiencing accidents, injuries, or illnesses.

As a Firefighter, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond to fire, medical, rescue, and other emergency incidents.

  • Provide emergency medical care and fire suppression services.

  • Perform rescue, hazard mitigation, and related emergency operations.

  • Conduct fire prevention inspections and public education activities.

  • Maintain equipment, apparatus, stations, and operational readiness.

  • Participate in training and support department operations as assigned.

  • Current full-time, sworn firefighter with at least one year of fire suppression experience (must be off probation, in good standing, and without a break in service).

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.

  • California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 Certificate or a Fire Academy Certificate meeting the California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 curriculum.

  • For Firefighter EMT applicants: Valid National Registry EMT certification.

  • Candidates must obtain Santa Clara County EMT credential and CPR card within six months of appointment.

  • For Firefighter Paramedic applicants: Valid Paramedic certification.

  • Candidates must obtain Santa Clara County accreditation within six months of appointment.

  • Valid California Drivers License with the ability to obtain a CA DMV authorization to operate firefighting vehicles before completing probation.

  • Ability to meet the hearing, vision, and physical requirements of the position.

  • Must obtain a valid CPAT by the time of appointment.

Highly Desirables:

  • Associate degree in Fire Technology or a closely related field
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Russian

Applicants whose qualifications best align with the needs of the application will be invited to participate in the selection process, which is anticipated to include:

  • Video Interview (100%) - Tentatively scheduled for the week of September 7, 2026.
  • Oral Board Interview (100%) - Tentatively scheduled for the week of October 12, 2026.
  • Fire Department Chiefs Interview - Select candidates from the eligibility list may be invited to participate in a final interview with the Fire Department executive team for a more in-depth discussion of the position. Tentatively scheduled for the week of October 26, 2026.

The selection process and recruitment timeline are subject to change based on the number of applicants and the needs of the Department.
