The Fire Science Program Assistant at Umpqua Community College is a student employment opportunity that provides hands-on experience supporting the Fire Science program while building professional skills.

In this role, you will help maintain training equipment, manage inventory, and prepare classrooms and practical exercises, working alongside Fire Science faculty and staff to ensure students have a safe and effective learning environment.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Inspect, clean, organize, and maintain fire science equipment, tools, and PPE.
• Prepare equipment and training props for classroom, lab, and practical exercises.
• Set up and put away equipment before and after training activities.
• Conduct routine inventory counts and help keep inventory records accurate.
• Report damaged, missing, or unsafe equipment to the Fire Science Coordinator.
• Assist with basic equipment maintenance and minor repairs as directed.
• Maintain maintenance logs and equipment tracking records.
• Support special projects and other departmental needs.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Fire Science Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Currently
• In good academic and disciplinary standing.

Preferred:

• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT & FEDERAL WORK-STUDY

This position may be filled through either the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program or regular student employment, depending on student eligibility and available funding.

Students hired through the Federal Work-Study Program must:

• Be eligible for and accept a Federal Work-Study award.
• Be enrolled in at least six (6) eligible credits each term.
• Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
• Complete all required hiring paperwork and receive employment authorization before beginning work.

Students who are not eligible for Federal Work-Study may still be considered for employment through regular student worker funding, if available.
