Function

The purpose of the class is to assist in the development and implementation of the overall marketing plan for recruiting City of Hampton Fire and Rescue positions, with a major emphasis on volunteer firefighter/rescue squad members. Arranges speaking engagements and makes presentations at community events and meetings. Coordinates events designed to increase the Fire Departments exposure to attract volunteers. This position works under the general supervision of the Recruitment and Training Administrator.

What Youll Do:

  • Coordinate recruitment activities for volunteer Fire & EMS personnel.
  • Assist with recruiting career Fire Division employees as needed.
  • Support pre-employment processes, including background checks, physical assessments, and drug testing.
  • Maintain recruitment records and databases.
  • Develop flyers, brochures, and other promotional materials.
  • Update recruitment information on the Fire Division website.
  • Represent Hampton Fire & Rescue at community events, career fairs, and public speaking engagements.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and professional groups.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and presentations.
  • Assist with scheduling volunteer Fire and EMS training.
  • Respond to inquiries from applicants, volunteers, staff, and the public.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from high school or successful completion of the GED; preferably supplemented with college courses in Business Administration, Public Administration, Marketing, Human Resources, or other related field of study.
  • Requires a minimum of three (3) years of experience in recruitment.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.
  • Must successfully pass a background check before any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

Additional requirements:

  • Requires proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and presentation software.
  • Knowledge of Fire department and EMS operations preferred.
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergencies, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
