Each candidate must submit a payroll deduction authorization form for a security deposit of $150 as part of their application. This security deposit will be deducted for any appli cant who does not appear for any part of the exam ination at the proper date and time. SALARY RANGE : $110,926 - $116,213 - $121,510; appointments to be made at the minimum or entrance salary of $ 110,926 a year. Advancements within the salary range may be made in accordance with the terms of the contract between the City of Bridgeport, and the Bridgeport Fire Fighter Local 834, AFL -CIO. DUTES : Technical and supervisory work of more than ordinary difficulty and responsibility, serving as a line officer in command of fire companies, fire staff and equipment, located in an assigned fire distr ict of the City during a scheduled tour of duty; related work as required; performed under general technical and administrative direction. REQUIREMENTS : This examination is open to members of the Bridgeport Fire Department who have occupied with tenure a position of Fire Captain for not less than three (3) years as of the final date for filing applications, September 11, 2026 . Candidates must possess the following special knowledge, ability and skill: • Extensive knowledge of department rules, regulation s, and practices. • Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting equipment, methods and techniques, and fire prevention engineering. • Where applicable, thorough knowledge of fire administration methods and practices. • Considerable knowledge of municipal government and of the relationships between the fire department and the state and municipal government agencies. • Demonstrated command and/or administrative ability. SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: The Assessment Center will consist of exercises that simulate some of th e work that a Fire Assistant Chief in the Bridgeport Fire Department is required to do. The pass point is calculated at 70% of the highest passing score. Candidates will be required to pass a qualifying service rating in order to be placed on the employment list.
