Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced technician to inspect, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial environments. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical troubleshooting skills, knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable fire/life safety codes, and the ability to provide professional service to customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine inspections and testing of fire alarm components, including control panels, detectors, horns, strobes, annunciators, and related devices.
- Identify and troubleshoot system malfunctions involving wiring, circuitry, devices, and system components.
- Perform repairs and corrective maintenance to restore proper system functionality.
- Respond to service calls and emergency requests as needed.
- Perform preventative maintenance, including cleaning, calibration, battery replacement, and other required service activities.
- Prepare detailed inspection and service reports documenting findings, test results, deficiencies, repairs, and customer recommendations.
- Communicate inspection findings and system deficiencies to customers professionally.
- Provide recommendations for necessary repairs, upgrades, or improvements.
- Coordinate with service and administrative teams regarding scheduling, materials, work orders, and job requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, parts used, and customer interactions.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all applicable safety procedures and regulations.
- Travel to customer sites as needed to perform inspections, service, and repairs.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Technical or vocational training in fire alarm systems or a related field preferred.
- NICET certification strongly preferred.
- State-specific fire alarm licensing preferred, or ability to obtain required licensing.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Previous experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire alarm systems in commercial or industrial environments.
- Strong understanding of NFPA 72 and applicable fire, life safety, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to travel to customer locations as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work on feet for extended periods.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when required.
- Comfortable working in commercial, industrial, and outdoor environments that may include noise, dust, heat, low-light conditions, and other challenging conditions.
- Ability to use hand and power tools for cutting, grinding, drilling, fastening, and other service-related tasks.
- Ability to use appropriate fall protection and other safety equipment when required.
