Under minimal supervision, this role performs a variety of financial management, budget administration, and accounting functions in support of multiple School of Nursing departments and initiatives. This position exercises independent judgment and initiative in the administration of financial processes, including budget management, requisition and procurement approvals, and financial compliance activities. This position serves as a financial resource to faculty and staff and has approval authority for P-Card transactions, payment requests, requisitions, and journal entries. This individual also provides backup support for financial operations within the School of Nursing Finance Office. This role resides in the Dean''s Office, under the direction of the Director of Fiscal Affairs. All work is performed in accordance with University and School of Nursing policies, procedures, and financial guidelines. Strong analytical, technical, organizational, and time management skills are required to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for managing budgets, reconciling accounts, and distributing reports monthly for varying departments and programs.

  2. Serves as an approver for Oracle transactions and requisitions, ensuring compliance with University procurement policies, funding restrictions, and budget availability.

  3. Conducts financial orientation meetings for newly hired employees regarding School of Nursing financial procedures and systems.

  4. Reviews encumbrance reports and manages the closure of purchase orders to ensure financial records remain accurate and current.

  5. Assists in coordinating account closeout activities. May process account closeout journal entries and notify central accounting of account closeout.

  6. Serves as a financial resource for faculty and staff by providing guidance regarding procurement, financial processes, Buy UAB, and University financial policies and procedures.

  7. Provides cross-functional support for Finance Office operations. SON Finance inbox management. Prepare and distribute weekly travel reports. Process Personal Services Forms (PSF) for Central Office approval. Reviews and routes P-Card requests, including verification of required training and Adobe Sign workflow processing.

  8. Assists with other financial transactions and approvals as assigned to ensure continuity of operations.

  9. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

(Annual Salary: $55,180 - $89,670)

Bachelor''s degree in Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Experience in an academic setting is preferred. To be successful, this individual must have a strong working knowledge of database software such as Microsoft Office (to include Access) or other financial management software. Additionally, the individual in this role must be able to multi-task, managing multiple projects simultaneously with a great degree of accuracy in a customer-friendly and timely manner. This individual must adhere to all FERPA and HIPAA standards, donor, and alumni confidentiality guidelines, and be willing to contribute and subscribe to the mission of the School of Nursing at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
