SUMMARY:

The Financial Analyst Senior plays a pivotal role in advancing the financial strength and strategic priorities of the hospital and health system. This position delivers sophisticated financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis that informs high-impact decisions across clinical and administrative departments. The analyst leads core financial functions-spanning financial and management reporting, cost accounting, operating and capital budgeting, business plan development, contracting, and reimbursement analysis-while also supporting financial systems design and optimization. By integrating research, operational insight, and deep systems knowledge, the analyst defines system requirements, drives consistency in financial processes, promotes cost-effective practices, and provides strategic consultation to enhance business operations and system performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Strategic Financial Planning, Modeling & Decision Support
• Leads complex financial modeling, strategic planning, and advanced analysis to support organizational decision-making.
• Develops operating and capital budgets using historical performance, revenue and expense projections, and operational inputs.
• Interprets financial and operational results, identifies trends, and recommends actions to improve cost efficiency, profitability, and overall financial performance.
• Evaluates and prepares business cases for new programs, services, and capital investments.
• Supports payer contract modeling and reimbursement analysis.
• Prepares cost data analysis, monthly management financial statements, statistical reports, and other key fiscal deliverables.
• Financial Reporting, Forecasting & Performance Management
• Leads the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes in collaboration with department leaders.
• Prepares monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis, narratives, and KPI dashboards.
• Analyzes monthly revenue and expense reports and prepares budget vs. actual variance statements.
• Provides actionable insights and financial recommendations to senior leadership.
• Meets regularly with operational leaders to review financial performance and provide consultative support.
• Ensures accuracy, consistency, and compliance with internal controls, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Cost Accounting, Productivity & Operational Support
• Supports cost accounting and productivity analysis for clinical departments.
• Serves as a financial consultant on operating procedures, department needs, business operations, and system utilization.
• Advises on opportunities for cost reduction, margin improvement, operational efficiency, and strategic resource deployment.
• Financial Systems Leadership, Data Integrity & Process Improvement
• Maintains and directs the financial planning and reporting systems, ensuring functionality, data integrity, and alignment with GL detail.
• Implements financial system upgrades, enhancements, and conversions in partnership with Information Services (IS).
• Creates and maintains systems for tracking volume statistics, payroll data, and other metrics used in reporting and analysis.
• Develops and enhances methods, procedures, and tools for budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and financial system maintenance.
• Analyzes workflow or system problems and determines the most efficient and cost-effective solutions.
• Designs, implements, and updates test plans for financial system changes, including unit testing and system testing.
• Leads or contributes to initiatives that streamline reporting processes, automate analytics, and improve financial data quality.
• Collaboration, Leadership & Education
• Mentor's financial analysts and supports continuous improvement across financial processes and tools.
• Collaborates with finance team members on cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives.
• Conducts or assists with educational sessions on financial processes, systems, and analysis for leaders and staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business, Management Information Systems, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Master's degree or MBA preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Four (4) - six (6) years of progressive experience in financial analysis, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting. Strong understanding of healthcare finance, reimbursement models, and cost structures.

LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION: None required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling, including complex formulas, scenario modeling, and data analysis tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial, operational, and clinical data.
• Ability to develop accurate forecasts and budgets, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
• Knowledge of financial value analysis, ROI, and cost-benefit methodologies for evaluating programs, services, and capital investments.
• Ability to evaluate accounting and financial systems, ensure accurate cost allocation, and maintain data integrity across reporting tools.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Lawson, Oracle, Workday) and data visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau); SQL or database querying preferred.
• Strong ability to prepare, interpret, and present detailed financial reports, dashboards, and business cases for leadership audiences.
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to produce reports, business correspondence, and procedure documentation.
• Effective verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders and respond to inquiries professionally.
• Ability to define problems, collect and validate data, establish facts, and make sound, data-driven conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions, financial regulations, and organizational policies, including those in mathematical or diagrammatic form.

• Strong understanding of financial transactions, budgeting principles, variance analysis, and cost accounting concepts.
