ABOUT THE JOB
The Financial Analyst will provide BP&A (Business Planning & Analysis) support to the Finance Manager, and partner with Commercial Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Supply Chain teams to bridge the company’s commercial and operational plans with its financial plans to achieve short-term and long-term goals.  This role is responsible for unlocking deep insights into performance, turning takeaways from Business Driver Mix and other analyses to action, and instilling financial acumen in our business partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/THE DAY-TO-DAY
Planning & Financial Performance Review:
  • Support the construction of the Annual Operating Plan and rolling forecasts
  • Deliver insights and actionable variance analysis of results vs. Plan, vs. forecast, and vs. prior year; identify areas of risk and/or opportunity based on key business performance metrics
  • Develop tools and models to analyze volume and profit performance; identify actionable opportunities to improve revenue and profit
  • Partner with Commercial Finance on pre- and post-promotion effectiveness analysis, providing volume and profit insights to inform pricing and spend decisions
  • Support financial evaluation of new product launches and innovation, including business case development and post-launch performance tracking
  • Analyze profitability by brand, SKU, and channel to inform portfolio and resource allocation decisions
  • Apply critical thinking and a long-term perspective to improve decision-making on short-term investments
  • Partner with and educate business partners on financial and P&L management concepts
  • Support commercial finance as needed, including sales budget management and system updates
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as needed

Reporting:
  • Prepare and publish monthly performance reports for business partners
  • Own or support Month End Close tasks
  • Complete regular and ad-hoc reporting to support business decision-making
  • Incorporate insightful analysis into reporting to drive business results (volume, margin, ROI)
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations and other materials as needed for business partners

AM I THE RIGHT FIT? 
Not everyone can be a Financial Analyst, BP&A.  To be seriously considered for the role here is what you’ll bring:
 
Education/Licenses/Certifications:
    • A Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years in an analytical role such as Field Finance or FP&A and demonstrating commercial acumen
    • Budget management experience
  • Preferred
    • Experience in CPG industry strongly preferred
    • Experience supporting Business Unit and working with Field Sales Organization
    • Experience with ERP systems, MS Dynamics/Business Central
    • Experience with Dashboard and other Business Intelligence systems, Power BI
    • Experience utilizing/interpreting syndicated volumetric and pricing data
Skills/Traits:
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel functions, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines
  • Strong drive for excellent results, including consistent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Must be a proactive self-starter, capable of adapting to rapidly changing priorities and performing in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with capability to translate data into actionable solutions
  • Ability to organize and manage large data sets, apply strong analytical skills to resolve complex problems
  • Must demonstrate insightful use of financial analysis techniques, tools, and concepts to help deliver business results
  • Must conduct oneself in a professional, consistent manner when representing the organization
  • Ability to interact effectively and confidently with all levels of management
  • Must demonstrate high standards of integrity at all times
 
Physical requirements:
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (10-15%)
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $78,000 - $85,000 per year for San Diego, CA. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
