    Description

Every defect whether damaged, defective, missorted package or item has a cost story behind it, and you"ll be the one uncovering it and quantifying it so you can drive the fix. Amazon"s Central Operations Finance team is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to serve as a trusted finance partner for Defect Cost Controllership (DCC), supporting operational and functional leaders across the network.

The NACF DCC finance team provides cost controllership and project return on investment alongside financial insights for end-to-end defect reduction processes and initiatives across the supply chain. This role will directly influence controllership over defect costs spanning damages, concessions, and missorts, driving measurable cost reduction across fulfillment centers. Our team translates operational KPIs into financial impact so stakeholders have the most current and reliable information to make the best possible decisions for Amazon.

As DCC expands its scope and takes on end-to-end defect reduction workstreams, we need a Senior Financial Analyst to help scale our controllership and cost insights capabilities. The team is investing in automated defect cost attribution and expanded reporting coverage while building new financial models to support warehouse damages initiatives.

You"ll work with SQL, Excel, and financial systems like SAP to build models and mine large-scale data while automating reporting. This role sits within the NACF Finance organization and partners closely with operations, Retail & FBA business partners, and customer service finance teams. Your time will be split between deep analytical work, building forecasts, cost bridges, and ROI models, and collaborative sessions with cross-functional stakeholders to align on strategy and present findings to senior leadership.

There is significant room to grow in this role. You"ll gain exposure to senior leaders and deep expertise across multiple cost domains, plus the opportunity to shape how DCC approaches financial controllership as the team scales.

    Key job responsibilities

    • Own end-to-end financial planning cycles including forecast modeling, variance bridging, network partnership, and presentations to senior leadership.
    • Analyze large-scale quantitative data to build meaningful reports that drive defect cost reduction strategy and business improvement.
    • Validate project financials to ensure accurate return-on-investment insights and track financial impact against budget baselines.
    • Partner with senior stakeholders to align on cost strategy, challenge assumptions with data, and communicate financial insights clearly across audiences.
    • Build and automate scalable processes that improve efficiency across finance workflows related to defect costs.

    A day in the life

The DCC team focuses on finance controllership, cost savings, and end-to-end defect cost reduction across North America Customer Fulfillment. Your primary focus will be on workstreams that identify opportunities leading to cost reduction and process improvement that strengthen financial controllership. You"ll also own project financial validations and return-on-investment analyses while tracking financial impact on budget baselines. The team plays a key role in decision making and developing financial insights as part of monthly and quarterly business reviews, leading cost business reviews, and providing ad-hoc analysis on large or ambiguous deliverables. Recent projects have ranged from building automated cost bridges for monthly business reviews to quantifying the financial impact of new defect reduction pilots across the network.

    About the team

The DCC team supports multiple teams across North America Customer Fulfillment and collaborates with NA Quality, Customer Service, and end-to-end financial controllership. In cases of worldwide workstreams, the team collaborates with business partners across the globe. What sets this team apart is the breadth of exposure. You"ll work across every major defect category in the fulfillment network, partnering with operators and finance leaders alike to turn cost data into action.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
