About Us
Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college has a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service. GSC offers nearly 30 degrees, which includes multiple associate and baccalaureate pathways for students. Job Summary
This position administers financial aid programs by evaluating student eligibility, processing and awarding financial aid, maintaining student records, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing financial aid counseling and support to students and their families.
Responsibilities
Advising & Support
Advises students and parents regarding the availability of financial aid, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
Determines student eligibility for certain types of financial aid.
Awards federal, state, institutional and private sources of financial aid to students within appropriate guidelines and regulations.
Administers financial literacy sessions.
Coordinates exit counseling for required student groups.
Coordinates Federal Work Study awards and assignments.
Data Entry and Record-Keeping
Reviews and processes financial aid files and related processes assigned.
Manages student financial aid records.
Reviews student satisfactory academic progress (SAP) evaluations.
Compliance and Regulations
Ensures compliance with federal, state, institutional, and other applicable laws, regulations, and policies regarding financial aid.
Reviews student eligibility and awards to ensure adherence to established financial aid regulations and guidelines.
Maintains accurate documentation and records required for financial aid programs.
Communication and Outreach
Responds to student inquiries and researches and resolves issues in a timely manner.
Assists with new student orientation and open house events.
Attends off campus financial aid events and financial aid seminars.
Communicates financial aid information, policies, and procedures to students, parents, faculty, and staff.
Other Duties
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor¿s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
One (1) year of experience.
Demonstrated ability to provide presentations to small and large groups.
Available to work evenings/weekends during peak periods.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Financial Aid Office experience in higher education.
Knowledge of Banner (Ellucian) or similar information systems.
Experience with Federal Student Aid Programs.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid programs, policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the Banner financial aid module.
Knowledge of federal and state student aid online reporting systems.
Knowledge of need analysis principles.
Knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, and equipment.
Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in decision making and problem solving.
Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
Skill in oral and written communication.
